Frauenfeld is the capital of the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland, and the city tries to keep all state museums within its borders. In early 2019, the construction of a new historical museum had been announced, and the citizens of Arbon, a small town in eastern Switzerland, decided they wanted the museum in their community. A task force recognized that the first effort was to build support within Arbon. After much deliberation, October 26, 2019 was selected as Museum Day, promoting visits from “Eleven to Eleven” (“Museums TagNacht”). Three museums (a modern agriculture museum, a historic museum, and the Saurer Truck and Textile Machinery Museum) worked closely together in new ways. This session explains how the three museums collaborated to raise political and public support, and gathered interest from an art gallery and the local tourist office. Working with a short timeframe and low budget, teams from the museums and other cultural groups collaborated on Museum Day activities, including an “all-included” fee for all events and hop-on, hop-off shuttles. They identified ways to find and identify visitors and levels of public interest, led panel discussions with leaders, and promoted local and regional newspaper articles. The Museum Day was quite a success. Through this collaboration the organizers got an echo from the capital; the decision-makers in Frauenfeld can no more ignore the little peripheral city of Arbon, and the citizens are proud to be part of the “Museum and Culture city!”  The session concludes with lessons learned and “Ten Points Not to Ignore” when organizing an inter-museum and citywide museums day.
