GuideStar gathers, organizes, and distributes public information about 2.7 million U.S. nonprofits. GuideStar uses the Internal Revenue Service Form 990, and IRS Letters of Determination and other data. Using public data made available through the GuideStar database, Mark will provide an overview of ninety-three unnamed U.S. automotive museum financial resources, and benchmark them against standards from the American Alliance of Museums. The data provides a means to examine profitability, revenue and expense composition, and liquidity. The session goal is to begin a conversation on how museums can collaborate to develop a tool that they can use to examine their own financial health compared to peer groups.
